Why Your Mind Races And The Affect it Has on Addiction

Affect of racing mind on addiction

Have you noticed that your mind never stops thinking. It is always working. You are in a constant monologue with yourself.

Sometimes I can’t sleep because my mind and thoughts will not quiet. After a restless night, I asked God why he created our minds to work that way, knowing the negative consequences our thoughts can have and not having the ability to stop the thought process.

He answered me, not out loud, but in my spirit. He said, “I am the Creator, and I made you in my image, and that is how you create – with your thoughts.” I was amazed and thankful for this revelation. We can either choose to control our thinking to create a wonderful, joyous life, or let negative thoughts run rampant and create disharmony and chaos in our life.

This is why God says, “As a man thinketh in his heart so he is.” Prov 23:7, and “Be made new in the attitude of your minds.” Eph 4:2, and “…be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” Rom 12:2

God is the master creator who made the universe and all that is within it with His Word. Words are so important that Jesus is called the Word, because through Him all things were made, and what He said became. We are made in God’s image, and we ourselves are creators in our life by the use of our thoughts and words. What you think and believe about yourself will become your reality.

So what affect does a racing mind have on your addiction? If you control your thoughts with the truth – such as, “I am free”, “I am victorious”, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”, “I am strong and God has a perfect plan for my life”, then as you think so you will be. If you allow your thoughts to take control – such as, “I am hopeless”, “I am an addict”, “I don’t belong”, “I am depressed”, “I am afraid”, “I will never change”, then as you think so you will be.

The Bible says “Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Cor 10:5. Strive to do that with every thought and create the life that God intended for you.
